Who, What, Why, Where and When

WHAT

GAN-ə-meed Theatre Project is dedicated to advancing the role of women in life, theatre and the arts through performances of text-based, lyrical works of dramatic literature.  Productions explore the relevant, intimate and visceral lives of characters and their stories through various woman-centered choices including:

  • actress-proposed productions
  • non-traditional casting of classical plays including Shakespeare’s cannon
  • established and emerging female playwrights & directors

GAN-ə-meed Theatre Project supports the education of young artists through Shakespeare-oriented programs for girls and includes one youth actress in every professional Shakespeare production to honor and advance the role of apprenticeship and learning through participation.

WHO

GAN-e-meed Theatre Project is a growing group of dedicated individuals:

  • Board Lucy Robinson, SerahRose Roth, Justin Rowland, Erin Scanlon, and Christopher James Webb
  • Producing Artistic Director SerahRose Roth
  • Development Consultant Stacey Mink

WHY

Any theatre flunky can tell you there are three times as many stage actresses as actors.  Three times more women for a quarter of the roles.  Actresses need a solid, effective resource for creating their own opportunity to play a dream role.  Directors and playwrights need a welcoming, challenging, supportive venue to shout-out because, as far as we can tell, there are thousands of unrecognized female professionals without creative support.  And thus was born GAN-e-meed Theatre Project.

Called after the male name Rosalind takes in Shakespeare’s As You Like It, GAN-e-meed will be the staging ground, foundation, cooking pot, and home for women who want to take charge of their careers and actively seek life-transforming theatrical opportunities.
