We Can Be Your Cheap DateGuest Post: SerahRose Roth, Producing Artistic Director When Meg Taintor from Whistler in the Dark reminded me about a “shared space” idea we’d tossed around months earlier, I jumped at the opportunity. She came to me and basically dumped an hour of performance space into my lap: “Here, we have a space and an extra hour. Take it, it’s yours.” Now, we could have gone the expected route, done a staged reading or two to put up some new plays. But what’s the fun in that? As Teresa Eyring, Executive Director of Theatre Communications Group, wrote recently, “Imagine what can happen when you discard all assumptions about what person, ideas or activities go in which box.” So, we’re putting up three short plays under the collective title Ties That Bind, written and directed by Boston area women, rehearsed and pulled together in just a few weeks, and performed without a prior technical rehearsal. Frankly, it takes guts for a director to pull a piece together so fast and for her cast to step out onto stage trusting the lights will be there, the chair will be there, the audience will be there. I found some really talented women to pull this off and I am very excited to see the end result. You can see their full bios (along with the cast) over at Ties That Bind: Who’s Who. And, about that cheap date part: Ties That Bind is FREE. The show starts at 6, so come on by a few minutes early to snag a seat and take in about 35 minutes of really good theatre to round out your Valentine’s Day. Ties That Bind **This event is taking place thanks to the generosity of Whistler in the Dark Theatre Company and their Second Act Series. Please support their work and go see One Flea Spare. |
