Mission

The purpose of GAN-ə-meed Theatre Project is to advance the role of women in theatre in order to reduce unseen and unintentional gender bias in the theatre community and promote genuine career advancement opportunities for deserving artists.

We can do this by:

  • Producing theatrical performances of text-based, lyrical works of literature exploring the relevant, intimate and visceral lives of characters and their stories.
  • Creating a season in which every production is proposed by an artist which includes Directors, Playwrights, Actresses, Actors, Stage Managers, Designers, Choreographers, Fight Directors, Musicians, and any other creative person that may be involved in a theatrical production.   (Check back in 2010 for more information about how to submit a proposal.)
  • Offering competitive and equitable pay for all staff and artists.
  • Creating an on-going supportive and challenging home for returning artists.
  • Welcoming new and emerging artists.
  • Promoting the study of and visibility of gender bias among theatre artists.
  • Educating girls.
  • Including one youth actress in every adult season to honor and advance the role of apprenticeship.

  • [...] This past Sunday, the Board of my budding company, GAN-e-meed Theatre Project met to discuss, among other things, the mission.  We’re new so we need to define, enhance, and pinpoint what exactly we want to do.  We all agreed, in a nutshell that we “advance the role of women in theatre.”  What comes after that…precisely…we’re still working on. • Susan K Monson and I have written a stage play Women’s Voices (about a feminist a cappella choir). Susan is an American and now lives in London UK where she was a member of the feminist choir Velvet Fist for 17 years and studied Women’s Studies as part of an Open University course. You can download and read the script and, just below the script, the Cover Page with resume and biographies on my website http://www.christopherowen.co.uk The website also comes with blog / recent news, list of plays professionally produced and some other scripts that can be downloaded. If you’d prefer I’d be happy to send you Women’s Voices as an email attachment – do let me know. Best wishes, Susan and Christopher.

  • Thanks, Christopher and Susan. At the moment, we don’t accept unsolicited scripts. We’re so small that we just don’t have the woman-power to read them all! But I’m glad you left your link so others can go take a look at your work!
