In the past few months, we have been posting relevant industry news over in our social networking neighborhoods like facebook and twitter, but we think this one is worthy of shouting out over here too, because it’s big and it’s important. Looking for a way to support women in theatre this weekend? Look no further. Two compelling events for you: If you live in the New Jersey area, or can get there for the day, there’s an exciting FREE Women in Theatre Conference that is being sponsored by Princeton and billed as a celebration honoring Emily Mann’s 20th Anniversary as Artistic Director of the McCarter Theatre Center. Saturday September 26. In the last month, there have been an unusual number of articles published surrounding gender bias in theatre, particularly concerning playwrights and directors. We think the the 2009 African-American Theatre Festival deserves a shout-out for focusing on women. |
