Summer Shakespeare for Teens

Summer Shakespeare for Teens:
GAN-ə-meed Theatre Project Offers Innovative,
Professional Experience for Teen Actors and Actresses

Burlington, MA – June 25, 2009 – GAN-ə-meed Theatre Project, founded for the advancement of the role of women in theatre, is seeking dedicated and passionate teen actors and actresses to make up the cast of Macbeth.  Under the directorship of Producing Artistic Director SerahRose Roth (of Nashua, NH), the cast will put their vocal and physical skills to the test.  In the end, their talents will grace the lawns of area parks with free performances for the public.

Macbeth rehearses July 12 through 24, Sunday through Friday, in the afternoons and evenings at the new home of local theatre company Atlantis Playmakers in Burlington, MA.  With the cast size limited to fifteen to allow for individual attention and personal growth, and rehearsals spanning only two weeks, cast members will be challenged to reach for new vocal strength, character creativity, and precise story-telling.   Auditions are not required for enrollment and no previous experience with Shakespeare is required.  Times and locations of the outdoor performances on July 25 and 26 are to be determined.  Need-based scholarships are available for the $300 tuition.

GAN-ə-meed Theatre Project is a new non-profit dedicated to advancing the role of women in life, theatre and the arts through professional performances of text-based, lyrical works of literature.  Productions explore the relevant, intimate and visceral lives of characters and their stories through various woman-centered choices.  GAN-ə-meed’s youth program, while not limited to young women, also advances this philosophy of theatre. In addition to workshops and summer programs, one youth actress is included in a main stage production every season to honor and advance the role of apprenticeship and learning through participation.  GAN-ə-meed’s inaugural season of two main stage plays is scheduled for 2010 and will be performed at both Atlantis Playmakers in Burlington and Arts at the Armory in Somerville.

For enrollment information and a detailed rehearsal schedule, interested teens and their families can visit Gan-ə-meed on line at www.GANemeed.org/education.  They can also email Ms. Roth directly at info@ganemeed.org.

SerahRose Roth is an actress, director and educator.  She has developed and taught classes at New Repertory Theatre, Northlight Theatre, Yellow Taxi Productions, Boston Children’s Museum, and Chicago Children’s Museum.  SerahRose is a consultant for the inclusion of theatre education in the early childhood classroom and has a particular passion for directing teens.  SerahRose holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Brandeis Univ.
